Open Revolt at OpenAI: 500+ Staff Threaten to Quit Unless Demands Met

The Two Demands Made by Staff 

More than 500 employees at OpenAI have threatened to quit unless the board reinstates Sam Altman as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) along with co-founder Greg Brockman. 

Staff Criticises Board’s Decision to Remove Altman, Brockman 

In a letter, the staff said that the process by which the board removed Altman and Brockman "jeopardized all of this work and undermined our mission and company."

One of the Staff Blamed of Coordinating the Coup 

One of the signatories of this letter was OpenAI’s Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever who is also a member of the board. Sutskever was blamed for coordinating the coup against Altman in the first place. 

Altman Set to Join Microsoft

The letter comes hours after Microsoft announced that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman would be joining the software giant to head a new advanced AI research unit. The OpenAI staff threatened to join Altman at Microsoft if their demands were not met.
