Former UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who has taken a break from fighting, shared a post on Instagram saying he would be fighting his arch-rival and current Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira at UFC 298 in mid-February. The post comes days after Pereira called out Adesanya after winning his Light Heavyweight title. "Adesanya, come to daddy," he said.
The seven-year rivalry between Adesanya and Pereira goes back to when both were professional kickboxers and did not transition into MMA or the UFC. In the UFC, Adesanya fought Pereira twice- first losing the Middleweight title to the Brazilian and then winning it back. However, Adesanya lost to Sean Strickland and was stripped of his belt.
The UFC has not made any official announcement about whether a third fight between Adesanya and Pereira would happen, and that too in the Light Heavyweight division.
