World’s 10 Most Expensive Cities 2023

The ranking of the world’s most expensive cities was published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). The average cost of living rose by 7.4 per cent this year. 

The 2023 Worldwide Cost of Living is based on a survey of 173 major cities and compares more than 400 individual prices across 200 products and services

10. San Francisco, United States

The city in the US state of California is 10th on the list and is among three in America that made the list of the most expensive to live in.

8. Tel Aviv, Israel – Copenhagen, Denmark

Israel’s Tel Aviv and the Danish capital city share the eighth place on the list. However, the survey was conducted before the war between Israel and Hamas broke out on October 7, the report noted.

7. Paris, France

The French capital city was dubbed the seventh most expensive city in the world this year.

6. Los Angeles, United States

LA, also in the US state of California is the sixth most expensive city in the world, according to EIU.

5. Hong Kong

Hong Kong was among the two Asian cities which made the top 10 most expensive cities in this year’s survey.

3. New York, United States – Geneva, Switzerland

In 2023, New York fell to third place despite the prices being up by 1.9 per cent, according to the report.

1. Singapore – Zurich, Switzerland

Singapore maintained its top spot on the list, tying with Zurich, which moved up from sixth place this year. Zurich is back at the top after three years, which the report has attributed to the high prices for groceries, household goods and recreation.
