Like the past years, this year also we got ample stuff on the OTT platforms - from the anticipated sequels, coming-of-age rom-com dramas, new superheroes with new power and whatnot. But did all the web shows manage to make a space in the hearts of the beloved audience? The answer is no. This year is coming to an end, and it's a perfect time to look back at the shows that have been loved by the masses, become social media trends and amassed whooping viewing numbers.

After a three-year wait, the Duffer brothers' 'Stranger Things' season 4 was one of the most anticipated shows of the year for moviegoers, and as expected, the season, which introduced the new villain Vecna, was able to smash all the records of the streaming world. The show, however, had stiff competition from Netflix's horror-comedy series 'Wednesday,' which ranks second on the list of Netflix's most popular shows in 2022.

Other shows that became the headlines of the entertainment world were the MCU's new series 'Ms Marvel', the Korean drama 'All of Us Are Dead,' and 'Inventing Anna,' among others.

As this year comes to an end, here is a look back at the web shows that become the audience's first choice!

Stranger Things

Season 4 of 'Stranger Things' earns the top spot! Since its debut, the show has established itself as one of the most popular web shows, and this year, fans got to see the much-awaited fourth season after a gap of three whole years.

Season four took us back to the life of Eleven, who has moved to California and is living with Byers; meanwhile, her other friends, Mike Wheeler, Dustin Henderson, and Lucas Sinclair are still in Hawkins, Indiana, and are facing a new menace, Vecna. The most terrifying villain in the show's history.

The thrilling season has topped Netflix's most popular shows of 2022 list, spending 19 weeks in Netflix's Top 10s and amassing 1.87 billion hours between May 22nd and October 9th.

Netflix's 'Wednesday' was released in November, but it was quick to shatter all the records and become one of the biggest shows in the streaming world. The 10-episode horror-comedy series follows the adventures of the famous Addams family's little girl - Wednesday played by Jenna Ortega.

Ortega's impressive performance as Wednesday, who is still living in the black-and-white world and hates everything that his schoolmates are doing, was quick to create waves online.

The coming-of-age supernatural comedy-horror series which was released in November become Netflix's most-watched series has debuted on a Nielsen streaming chart and with historic numbers.

Heartstopper

The most beautiful and heartwarming LGBT love story, we have watched this year is 'Heartstopper'. Netflix's coming-of-age teen drama revolves around two high schoolers Charlie and Nick, as they discover their true identity and find out that their bond is more than just a friendship.

The sweet queer love story quickly become a global phenomenon, with viewers praising the creators for telling an uplifting story for teens who are struggling with their sexual identity issues and how a supportive atmosphere may help them come out proudly.

This year, we got a lot of Marvel shows and films, but one that touched the hearts of fans and critics too was the story of Kamala Khan. The series follows the story of a Pakistani American girl, Kamala portrayed by Iman Vellani.

Bridgerton

After what season one of 'Bridgerton' did, the craze around season two was pretty much obvious. Season 2 of Shonda Rhimes' show followed the story of Anthony Bridgerton, who has now entered the marriage market to find a better half for himself. However, things are not exactly what he thought it would be, as he falls in love with Edwina Sharma, who has no intentions of getting married and is also the sister of Anthony's fiance.

The gossipy article of Lady Whistledown and the love-hate relationship between the lead couple in the show may not have been able to impress the audience as much as the first one did, but it did shatter the Netflix streaming record and become one of the most popular English language series on Netflix soon after its debut in March.

In the first week of its release, the Regency-era romance series gathered 251.7 million hours of viewing time and was also listed in the Top 10 in 88 countries worldwide in the first view months of its release.
